Caring for Our Waterways

At Latrobe Council, we’re committed to protecting the waterways that keep our communities healthy, our environment thriving, and our local economy strong.

This video explains how everyday actions from littering and poor agricultural practices to septic leaks and contaminated stormwater, can impact local waterways. It also highlights the simple things we can all do to make a difference, like disposing of litter correctly, using safe agricultural practices, picking up after pets, and maintaining septic systems.

The video also showcases the important role of our Environmental Health Officers, who regularly monitor water quality across the region. When testing shows bacteria levels are unsafe, swimming areas may be temporarily closed to protect public health.

By following signage, avoiding swimming after heavy rain, and doing our bit at home and work, we can work together to keep our waterways clean, safe, and ready for everyone to enjoy.
