Latrobe Police Senior Sergeant Martin Parker said that although Tasmania remains a generally safe place to live and work, rural crime can still have serious consequences for primary producers and regional communities.
The theft of items such as farm machinery, vehicles, fuel, livestock, firearms and equipment can result in significant financial losses and operational disruptions for farming enterprises.
The session will give attendees the opportunity to speak directly with local police about the challenges posed by rural crime and hear practical advice on safeguarding their properties. Topics scheduled for discussion include secure firearm storage, property security measures and other actions rural landowners can take to reduce the likelihood of becoming victims of crime.
Senior Sergeant Parker noted that effective crime prevention relies on cooperation between police and the community and encouraged rural residents to participate in the discussion.
The forum will take place at the Hamilton Hub, 18 Hamilton Street, Latrobe, at 7.00 pm on Monday, 21 September.
