At its meeting on Monday 23 June 2025, Latrobe Council adopted its Annual Plan and Budget for the 2025–26 financial year. In a video now available on the Council’s YouTube channel, Mayor Peter Freshney discusses this year’s rates and charges, as well as a $10.3 million capital works program, which includes 52 projects across the municipality.
Highlights of the program include the Hawley Foreshore Shared Pathway ($1.7M), reconstruction work on Tarleton Road and Percival Street ($1.25M), finalisation of the Latrobe Flood Mitigation Project ($0.35M), renewal of the Panatana footbridge ($0.3M), and improvements such as the Port Sorell Surf Club Playground and enclosed dog exercise area.
To deliver these priorities, the Council has approved a general rate rise of 6.6%. This will help cover rising operational costs, the maintenance of new infrastructure, and the impact of reduced federal grants. The average residential ratepayer can expect an increase of approximately $2.71 per week, although actual increases will vary based on individual property valuations.
