PROJECT UPDATE – PANATANA FOOTBRIDGE – 30 MARCH 2026
Latrobe Council’s contractor, SICC Services, commenced essential maintenance works on the Panatana Rivulet Footbridge at Port Sorell on 8 February 2026.
The project involves preparation and recoating of the bridge’s existing steel components, along with replacement of the perished wire mesh barrier infill. These works are necessary to maintain the structural integrity and long-term safety of the bridge.
The bridge was initially programmed to be reopened partially on weekends leading up to a final completion date of 16 April 2026.
Latrobe Council advises that there has been an unavoidable delay to the initially advertised reopening dates. This is primarily due to a necessary increase in scope associated with replacing the timber bearers and which was unable to be identified until the walkway decking had been removed. Due to these unforeseen delays, the revised reopening dates are:
Partial reopening (only on weekends): 16 May 2026
Full reopening: Jun 2026
To ensure public safety, the footbridge will remain inaccessible to all pedestrians and cyclists.
We apologise for the inconvenience caused by this delay and thank the community for their patience and cooperation while these essential works are carried out. For further enquiries, please contact
