Explore Latrobe and Port Sorell
With students on school holidays, there are many activities that can be enjoyed throughout Latrobe and Port Sorell.
Playgrounds are located at Bells Parade and Bosworth Park in Latrobe and Panatana Family Park and the Port Sorell Caravan Park in Port Sorell.
You are spoilt with the natural environment with plenty to explore. Shared pathways will take you around the foreshore from the Port Sorell Surf Life Saving Club to Squeaking Point. The coastal pathway meanders from Devonport to Latrobe with an abundance of paths over Dooleys Hill, Latrobe where you can find some really cool glowing fungi.
The Wild Mersey Mountain Bike Trails includes a variety of cycling challenges. Unfortunately, the opening of the longest pedestrian bridge in Australia has been delayed, but we hope to have that open for the next school holidays.
While not the right time of the year to see orchids in the Henry Somerset Orchid Conservation Area, it is still a great place to go for a walk and you can take your dog there as well.
The Mersey River and Rubicon Estuary, although a little cold if you happen to fall in, are a wonder to enjoy from a canoe or kayak. It is certainly a different perspective.
Kart Magic up near the speedway, the uniqueness of Reliquaire, both in Latrobe, are bound to delight students young and older.
The Australian Axemans Hall of Fame, Sherwood Hall, the Fairy Walk around Pig Island at Bells Parade, Latrobe, will captive many, and there are also free BBQs.
If you have a youngster that enjoys watching heavy machinery do their thing, the flood mitigation works at Bells Parade are still a work in progress and can be safely observed from a distance.
Skateparks are located alongside the Latrobe and Districts Youth Centre and in Shearwater Village.
Addison Reserve and the nautical theme of Shearwater Village will enhance imaginative play.
The House of Anvers is a wonderful place to visit. Check out the Chocolate Antique Display, the sculptures of Peter Rabbit and the Tasmanian Devil created by the incredibly talented Shrimal Kulatunge while enjoying the play equipment and indulging in their delicacies.
This is just a little of what can be discovered throughout the Latrobe Council area not only during the school holidays but every day throughout the year.
