Project Update - Panatana Footbridge - 14 May 2026
Latrobe Council’s contractor, SICC Services, is continuing the preparation and recoating of the bridge’s existing steel components, along with replacement of the perished wire mesh barrier infill. These works are necessary to maintain the structural integrity, long-term safety and longevity of the bridge.
Stripe coating is now competed. Steel structural bearers are being installed on the site from the week commencing 4 May which were coated at Contractor’s yard. At the same time, final/ top coating is being applied to the sections where steel structural bearers have already been installed. After completion of final coating to approximately half of the side rails and installation of the walkway timber boards, scaffolding will be removed off site. Different stages of work are being carried out simultaneously following the addition of extra manpower. The contractor is also currently working on Saturdays to ensure timely completion of the project. Despite these efforts, bridge could not be partially reopened to the public on 16 May due to residual safety risks and hazards.
The footbridge will now be reopened to public on weekends and fully reopened after completion of final coating on all steel structure on the nominated dates below.
Partial reopening (only on weekends): 23 May 2026
Full reopening: 8 June 2026
To ensure public safety in the meantime, the footbridge will remain inaccessible to all. Latrobe Council will continue to provide important updates on this project to the community.
