Project Update - Panatana Footbridge - 30 April 2026

Latrobe Council’s contractor, SICC Services, is continuing the preparation and recoating of the bridge’s existing steel components, along with replacement of the perished wire mesh barrier infill.  These works are necessary to maintain the structural integrity, long-term safety and longevity of the bridge.

Blasting and zinc anode coating has now been completed. Stripe coating is set to be completed by end of the week commencing 27 April. Steel structural bearers are already fabricated to the required length and coated at the Contractor’s yard. The next stage is to install these bearers on the site from the week commencing 4 May, while continuing work on intermediate coating simultaneously. After completion of final coating up to approximately half of side rails and installing a new wire mesh and walkway timber boards, scaffolding will be removed off site. The footbridge will then be reopened to public on weekends and fully reopened after completion of final coating on the nominated dates below as previously shared on the last community notice.

Partial reopening (Weekend access only): 16th of May 2026
Full reopening: 5 June 2026

To ensure public safety, the footbridge will remain inaccessible to all pedestrians and cyclists. Latrobe Council will continue to provide important updates on this project to the community.

We apologise for the ongoing inconvenience and thank the community for their patience and cooperation while these essential works are carried out.
