Project Update - Panatana Footbridge - 12 June 2026
Latrobe Council’s contractor, SICC Services, is nearing completion of the recoating of the bridge, and will soon start replacing the perished wire mesh barrier infill.
The footbridge was scheduled to be fully reopened on 8 June 2026, however, unfavourable weather conditions have prevented the application of the final coating.
A warm and dry surface condition is required for optimal performance and adhesion. The next suitable weather forecast is Sunday, 14 June 2026.
Our contractor is dedicated to completing these important works and intend to make use of the forecast weekend weather to mitigate risks of further delays. Although the footbridge has been partially open to the public with limited use over weekends from 23 May 2026, it will be closed to public during this coming weekend period (13 June and 14 June 2026) to allow our contractor to undertake works during these favourable weather conditions and allow for the proper curing of the topcoat.
Inclement weather is forecast throughout the entirety of next week commencing 15 June according to Bureau of Meteorology. It is intended that the bridge will be partially opened to public on the weekdays when no construction works are being undertaken as a result of this inclement weather and also recommencing the partial openings on weekends starting 20 June 2026.
Our contractor aims to take advantage of suitable weather on the week commencing Saturday 22 June 2026, completing the remaining work of final coating and installation of new wire mesh by close of business 26 June 2026.
Weather dependent, the bridge will be fully reopened to the public on Saturday, 27 June 2026, following site demobilisation.

Latrobe Council will continue to provide important updates on this project to the community. We thank the community for their patience and cooperation while these essential works are being carried out.
