Important information regarding tip tickets for Spreyton Waste Transfer Station

Published 9th July 2026
The Spreyton Waste Transfer Station is owned by Devonport City Council and services both Devonport and Latrobe residents. In February, Devonport City Council moved to a pay-by-weight system for general waste. Charging by weight provides a fairer system, as customers pay for the actual amount of waste disposed of rather than the estimated volume of a trailer or vehicle. This approach encourages smarter sorting, helping keep reusable and recyclable materials out of landfill.

What this means for you

  • Your annual tip tickets will continue to be accepted at the Spreyton Waste Transfer Station.
  • Previously, one tip ticket covered a load of up to 0.5 cubic metres. Under the new system, this will instead be applied as the weight equivalent of up to 50 kg for general waste.
  • If your load exceeds 50kg, multiple tickets can be used.
  • Once all tickets are used, any additional charges will be based on the measured weight of the waste and payable at the gate.
  • Tip tickets can be used for general waste (Landfill, green waste and timber).
  • Gate charges apply for all other types of waste (Tyres, asbestos and oil etc).
  • Recycling and many recoverable items will continue to be accepted free of charge, as long as they are correctly sorted.

Why this change is good for our community?

  • Lower costs through sorting – Separating materials can reduce your disposal fees.
  • Better recycling outcomes – Use the new Resource Recovery Centre to remove free recyclable items before being weighed.
  • Environmental benefits – Less waste to landfill, more materials recovered.
