Located at beautiful Port Sorell, the ‘Port of Golden Beaches’, the Banksia Centre and Camp Banksia provide a diverse range of facilities and services but remain somewhat a mystery for the local community and those that may not have been on site for many years or perhaps ever. The site has certainly changed a lot from its days as a ‘Life, Be In It’ camp with exciting development plans to add to its potential.
To fully understand the capacity of these venues, an Open Day is being held on Monday, 3 February.
The Open Day is the first of what will be a series of Open Days to allow people to view the Banksia facilities, get a better appreciation of what services and facilities are available and potentially identify ways that they may be able to utilise these sites and services.
Mayor Peter Freshney of Latrobe Council said: “the local community have clearly supported the retention of Camp Banksia and development of the Banksia Centre as a community facility. Council are therefore keen to ensure that full advantage is taken of these wonderful assets.”
The Banksia Centre and Camp Banksia, located on the corner of Pitcairn and Anderson Streets, Port Sorell, will be open from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm on Monday, 3 February with people invited to wander through at their leisure.
Draft redevelopment plans for Camp Banksia and the Banksia Centre, that resulted from public consultation and have Latrobe Council and Federal Government funding support, will also be on display in the Camp Banksia Main Hall for viewing and further comment.
