Council provides, via a contractor (Jones Waste Management) a fortnightly domestic garbage collection service throughout the urban and some country areas of the municipality.
Each property has been issued with a wheelie bin and it should remain at the property on change of ownership. Each bin is marked with a unique identifying serial number, which is recorded by Council.
In some small cul-de-sacs it may be necessary to place the bins together at the entrance to the cul-de-sac where the road is usually a bit straighter, as the mechanical arm may not be able to reach bins placed on the curved parts of the kerb.
Store wheelie bins in the shade, keep lids shut and wrap food waste in plastic (eg reused shopping bags). DO NOT place liquids, chemicals, hot ashes, heavy items or garden waste in bins.
When placing a wheelie bin out for collection, please make sure that:
Latrobe North Garbage (Every second Monday)
Includes north of Gilbert Street (not including Gilbert Street) up to the Moriarty Road roundabout, Bass Highway, streets off Bass Highway (not Moriarty Road) and all of Spreyton Area.
Latrobe South Garbage (Every second Tuesday)
Includes southern side of Gilbert Street (including Gilbert Street) and the Railton Road area.
Port Sorell Garbage (Every second Monday)
Includes Shearwater, Hawley Beach and Port Sorell bounded by the Alexander Street roundabout.
Rural Garbage (Every second Tuesday)
Includes the mainly rural area between the Alexander Street roundabout and the Moriarty Road roundabout.
Residents will be notified of any changes to the domestic collection service in the local newspaper and Council newsletters. Residents or owners will be notified directly of any specific changes only affecting a smaller part of the collection route.
