The Latrobe Township and Environs Strategic Plan 2009 recognises the area between Kings Park and Gilbert Street as being a strategic location for:
The Strategic Plan recommends the preparation of an outline development plan to provide guidance to future use and development of the area.
Two public information sessions were held to gain an insight into the community's expectations and desired outcomes for the possible redevelopment of the Kings Park area, including Reisz's Car Park. Community members who attended those meetings are generally in support of redevelopment and in light of this Council's consulting Heritage Architect, Mr David Denman, was engaged to prepare a draft redevelopment plan for the area.
Mr Denman's plan suggests the community should consider transforming Reisz's Car park and a section of Kings Park, south of Kings Creek, into an accessible open space area with facilities such as landscaped pathways, seating, shade structures, play equipment and public amenities etc. The plan also suggests consideration of relocating the existing public car park to other areas adjacent to the park, such as the Baptist Church Car Park and/or extending the existing car park located at the rear of Wells' Supermarket.
The Draft Kings Park Redevelopment Plan was presented to Council at its meeting held on 12 October 2009; where it was resolved to receive the proposal and place it on public exhibition for a period of 30 days.
The Plan is available for perusal at Council's offices at 170 Gilbert Street, Latrobe between the hours of 8.00am and 4.30pm, Monday to Friday or by clicking on the link below.
