The Port Sorell and Environs Strategic Plan 2008 identified significant potential for redevelopment of Camp Banksia, especially as Camp Boomerang has been nominated as the proposed school site for the area.

Camp Banksia occupies a large central site on the coast at Port Sorell and it's facilities include a half court sports hall, kitchen and dining facility, dormitory and self contained accommodation units, storage facilities and a caretakers' residence.
The Port Sorell and Environs Strategic Plan 2008 identified significant potential for redevelopment of Camp Banksia, especially as Camp Boomerang has been nominated as the proposed school site for the area.
Council engaged consultants Sykes Consulting to undertake a study to assess the opportunities for redevelopment and use of the Camp Banksia site. The study is inclusive of the following outputs:
A public information evening and meetings with stakeholders and users of the site were held at Port Sorell in late July to enable Sykes Consulting to gain an understanding of the community's desired outcomes and expectations for the site.
The Draft Camp Banksia Redevelopment Study was presented to Council at its meeting held on 12 October 2009; where it was resolved to receive the report and place it on public exhibition for a period of 30 days.
